College of Wooster: Introduction to Yoga
with Alana Pratt, E-RYT-200, BA
Introduction Audio:
Welcome
Please listen to the short introductory audio recording before moving along to Assignment One. Assignment One is made up of two parts. Be sure to do both parts. You may do the second part immediately following the first short practice or you may pratice the second part (i.e. the Extended Savasana) another day.
You will need a yoga mat and something to sit upon (i.e. a folded blanket or cushion) for the 20 minute practice. That being said, you may use a blanket in place of a yoga mat if you do not have a mat. You will also still need something to sit upon for the beginning of the practice, so you may sit upon a folded blanket to begin and then simply unfold the blanket completely and lie upon it for the remainder of the 20 minute practice. For the Extended Savasana, you may lie on a yoga mat and support your neck and head with a blanket if you would like. If you do not have a yoga mat, you may lie on a blanket. If you experience lower back discomfort or pain while lying in Savasana, you may take a rolled up blanket or yoga bolster (if you happen to have one) and place it under your knees. (See pictures below the Extended Savasana recording)
Your first written assignment is due on Friday, April 3rd by 5 p.m. For your written assignment, reflect upon your experiences doing both the 20 Minute Yoga Practice and the Extended Savasana. Write a short paper (300-500 words) in which you reflect on how you felt both before and after each practice - both physically and mentally - and be sure to include documentation of the days/times you practiced each part.
Take care, be well, and enjoy your practice time,
~ Alana
